Single-Handed Race on Sunday

Single-Handed RaceOK, so you can actually use two hands, as long as they both belong to you... The always-popular Corinthian Single-Handed Race will be held this Sunday at 1 pm. Sam Walters on Happy Days is RC and will be on station at 12:30 pm. This is a PHRF race open to all sailboats, and you can fly your spinnaker if you're up to it. (Don't forget the shock cord for the tiller...) Skippers are required to wear a life jacket and must tie a safety line to the stern of the boat that trails at least 20 feet aft. Two simple rules, but important ones — just ask Dave Dougall.

Testosterone-Free Racing

JakoA beautiful day, good breeze and a nice turnout for the Corinthians' Women on the Helm Race. An "I" course was set, twice around with Hogback as the windward mark and an orange mark dropped north of the Lake George Club as a leeward buoy. Unfortunately, there were two or three identical orange marks dropped for an Opti event at the club, which seemed to cause a bit of confusion during the first downwind leg for some of the racers. More photos are posted on Flickr (Jako never looked so good!) and results are posted here.

Women at the Helm Race on Sunday

Mighty Mary
Mighty Mary had their token male in Dave Dellenbaugh, and this Sunday, as long as the boat is helmed by a woman, men can crew (token or otherwise). The Corinthians have modified their traditional Women's Race and created the new Women at the Helm Race. The race will start at 1:00 pm in the usual race area just north of Canoe Island. PHRF, open to all sailboats on the lake. In the past, many of the female sailors on the lake banded together to crew a single boat, which kept the number of boats on the start line low. By allowing men to join as trimmers, rail meat and "twing chicks" we hope to encourage more women and more boats to compete.

Colors Filling Up Fast

With 58 boats already registered for the Changing of the Colors, there are only two slots remaining (for anyone outside of Fleet 24) before the event is officially sold out. After that, the only way in is to move to Lake George and join the local fleet...

UPDATE: The event is now full, and there's a waiting list.
