First Wed Night Race

We had a great turnout for the first Wed night race of the season, 14 boats on the line. A beautiful warm night, a nice south breeze, and we even have the video to prove it. As usual, all results will be posted on LakeGeorgeRacing.com

Wed Night Racing Results

The last Wednesday in August marked the end of the Wed night racing series, and racers gathered at Carl R's to see how that last race affected the totals. When the dust settled the top five boats were: Joy, Crackerjack, Flying Circus, Vaporize, Wild Thing. These five boats were awarded trophies, and the top 16 boats received race committee shirts (since they will be sharing RC duties for the 16 planned races next year). Over the course of the season, there were 34 boats that competed in at least one race, and 20 boats completed 9 of 15 races. Cumulative results will be posted soon, and of course individual race results are available at lakegeorgeracing.com.

26 Boats on Wed Night!

A record number so far this summer. A nice breeze, a long course from near Hogback to Diamond Island twice around... unfortunately the wind shifted to give us a long starboard tack to the windward mark, then a long port jibe back. In spite of some unusually creative spinnaker work, Wild Thing led around the course, but not enough time to hold off a great effort by Spirit to take the win. We have some photos; and, of course, the results.

20 Boats on a Rainy Wed Night

All that spinnaker practice in the Ti Race paid off with a big win for Jupiter tonight. And finally, someone remembered to bring a camera out on a Wed night... check out the complete results, and photos from the committee boat.

19 Boats on the Line on Wed Night

A funky west wind, six short windward leeward legs and a season high of 19 boats meant lots of boat-handling, lots of position changes, and finally a good night for the J/22s... check out the results.

Flying Circus Takes Early Lead on Wed Nights

Three weeks in, here's the latest Wed Night Racing summary from Rodger Voss:

"Current standings after three races with one throwout in effect: Flying Circus is in First Place with 4 points, a very impressive start to the season; JaKo is in Second Place with 6 points, the Most Improved so far from last year's finish of 13th overall; Crackerjack is in Third Place with 8 points, always a contender with a First Place the first race; Wild Thing is in Fourth Place with 8 points, very consistent with two fourth places finishes; Vaporize is in Fifth Place with 9 points, determination certainly shows with a First Place in the second race. There is a lot of excitement on Wednesday Nights. These next couple of weeks I'm sure will start to show an increase in participation. COME ON OUT AND JOIN THE FUN."

Largest Turnout of the Summer on Wed Night

Certainly the beautiful weather played a part as 26 boats turned out for a perfect evening's racing. Well, perfect until the breeze slowly dropped on the downwind leg... although enough to keep the spinnakers full for these great shots by Ron Byrne. We also heard Ed Ostberg's shutter firing at the weather mark, hope to have a link to share for those photos soon.

Wed Night Racing Update

Four weeks in, and the standings so far (with one throw-out): Spirit, Joy, Wild Thing, Catchin' Js, Jako, Uncle Ludwig, Cut Loose, Fat Star, Crackerjack, Vaporize, Jupiter, Jag, Stinger, Friendship, Revolution, CIL, and Knot Us. (That's Dave Dougall at left in his new Viper 640, Vaporize, taken as we crossed paths on a beautiful Memorial Day sail.) Check out the complete results for all Wednesday night races.

Wed Night Racing is Underway
