Corinthian News: February 2001
Commodore's Notes
by Herm Lintner
Believe itSpring is just one month away! As you can note
below, the calendar for our 2001 season is becoming full of opportunities
for sailing and fun. There is, however, still plenty of room for
your input and commitment. Of special note are alternatives being
considered for the cruising program with crew and friends involved.
We are looking to include several fun/social eventseach with
a single daysail to an island or anchorage. We would like your suggestions.
Please contact me or any member of the Executive Board. Better yetyou
all are invited to any of the Executive Board meetings6:30
pm of the second Tuesday each month at Starbucks in Saratoga Springs
(March 13 is the next one).
As this very active season approaches, racing sailors should anticipate
the usual four-year changes to the rules. Sailing World notes that
despite the major rewrite four years ago, we can expect a few notable
clarificationsespecially regarding mark roundings and obstructions
(Rule 18). since the rules take effect officially on April 1, 2001,
we undoubtedly will hear more soon - stay tuned!
I hope you all have noted the superb accomplishment by the 24-year-old
woman Ellen MacArthur, from Great Britain. She finished in second
place in the Vendee Globe Single-handed Around the World Race. Who
is to be next?
Hope to see you in March!

From the Editors Desk
Bill Morris
Bob Rippel and the Race Committee have completed the LGCYC Event
Calendar. Committee Boat assignments have yet to be made and will
be published in a future edition of this newsletter.
Beginning with the next issue, I would like to include a section
in the newsletter where we will try to provide a connection between
boat owners and available crew members. In addition, we can run
a classified ad section for people wanting to buy or sell items
pertaining to sailboats. Let me know what you feel that the newsletter
should do for you. Next month we will kick off our 2001 membership
campaign. Look for the membership application and renewal form to
be included with the newsletter. Also think about others who may
be interested in becoming a member so we can get an application
into their hands.
Lake George Mayors Cup Race
The second annual race will be held on June 1, 2, and 3. The course
will be located at the southern end of the lake near Lake George
Village. Contact any of the LGCYC Executive Board members.
Boats Looking for Crew
If you own a boat and are looking for crew for racing or cruising,
please contact the editor so that the information can be placed
here.
Crew Available for Boats
If you are interested in sailing but dont have a boat, please
contact the editor so that the information can be placed here. State
the times when you are available and what types of events you would
like to participate in. Previous sailing or crew experience is not
necessary.
Resource Directory
We are creating a resource directory for our sailing class. The
Directory will provide among other things, information about opportunities
to sail, where to take more lessons, and where to get services and
supplies for their boat. The Class will be held on Monday nights
in April in Saratoga Springs NY.
The Class is open to the adult public; old time salts, racers,
new sailors, and folks who are interested in learning more about
sailing and how to get involved in some of the fun without a big
commitment (i.e., buying a boat.)
In addition to the printed list of sailing related service providers
in the greater capital region, we will be having a show and
tell during the class in order to meet folks face to face,
do some networking and for you show off your wares.
Would you like to be counted as part of the sailing community?
