Corinthian News: March 2001
Commodore's Notes
by Herm Lintner
These notes are intended to bring you up to date on the progress
made by your LGCYC Executive Board toward a safe, active and enjoyable
season. Among the actions taken at the March meeting were:
Membership dues for 2001 are budgeted to remain the same as the
bargains of the 2000 season (see the membership
application). The overall expense budget wish lists have also
been reviewed and need a bit more refinement.
The board voted to obtain liability insurance coverage for problem
incidents at club events when arising either on the water or on
shore. Policies obtained are an add on to a master US
Sailing policy intended for small yacht clubs similar to ours. The
objective is to reduce our litigation exposure when serving as volunteers,
general representatives of the club, or board members. As a prelude
to this insurance action, our lapsed club membership in US Sailing
was reactivated.
Members of the LGCYC race committee reported they have completed
the designs for the Corinthian bulletin board and plans for the
Corinthian equipment storage both at the Yankee Boating Center.
Once implemented, these items will help us and newcomers stay informed
and assist us in our volunteer duties.
As noted elsewhere in this newsletter, the sailing and social program
schedule is firming up. Board discussions focused on specific plans
to support each event. Near-term attention is devoted to the April
sailing seminars and the Ti Race with its associated fund raising
for Y-Knot. You are invited to stay or become involved by contacting
any of the officers. We invite those of you who are not yet involved
to contact us to help define your active participation.
Good Sailing,
Herm

From the Editors Desk
Bill Morris
Casey and I have moved into our new home, so please note that 371-7283
is now the correct phone number to reach us at home in the evenings.
Enclosed with this newsletter is a copy of the LGCYC Membership
Brochure. Look it over, then pass it along to someone who you think
might be interested in becoming a member. Or, post it on a bulletin
board at work or other place where community events are publicized.
We would like to include some items of humor beginning with this
issue. If you have any humorous personal anecdotes from your own
sailing experience, please pass them along to me.
LGCYC Opening Event
Deb Katz
We will officially open our 2001 sailing season with a social get
together on Saturday, May 19 at 7 PM at the Downtown Emporium in
Glens Falls. Several members of the LGCYC will be assisting Y-Knot
with their race clinic earlier in the day, so our opening event
is scheduled later in the day than in previous years. Appetizers
and bar food will be provided by the Club, and there will be a cash
bar. The premises are handicap accessible.
