Friday September 15, 2006

The 2006 Lake George Corinthian Yacht Club’s Lake George Night Navigator Race is open to all eligible sailboats. Membership in the LGCYC is not required. The race starts at 19:00 (7:00 pm) at the U6 buoy at Hogback Reef in Bolton. Sailing Instructions will be posted on the Corinthian web site www.lake-george.com/navigator/ and will be available from Ivory Blue at the start line between 18:00 and 18:30.

Rules & Scoring

The Lake George Night Navigator Race will be governed by the rules as defined by in the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing, prescriptions of U.S. Sailing, except as modified by this Notice and the Sailing Instructions.

The “Time on Time” method of the PHRF handicap system will be used to calculate each boat’s corrected time and order of finish. The start of the race will be by sound signals only (no flags) from the vessel Ivory Blue and broadcast on VHF Channel 68. Participants will keep track of their own elapsed times between the start and finish and report the final elapsed time to Ivory Blue via VHF Channel 68.

Fleets

There will be a single PHRF Fleet racing from the start (the start line will be set in an east to west direction between Hogback Reef Buoy “U6” and an Orange Race Buoy with boats crossing the line in a northerly direction regardless of wind direction) to the F1 Buoy immediately south of Sabbath Day Point then returning to cross the starting line at Hogback reef in a southerly direction). The approximate course length is 34.5 miles as described in the Sailing Instructions.

Eligibility

All yachts must be sound with all equipment in place and in good, safe working condition and conform to all Federal, State and Local regulations and sailing class requirements including those applicable for vessels sailing or motoring at night.

Captains are solely responsible for the safety of their crew and boat.

Sailboats competing in the fleet must meet the following requirements:

  • There must be a minimum of three human crew members aboard for the entire race
  • All crew members will wear a Coast Guard approved PFD for the entire duration of the race
  • Navigation lights as required by government regulations
  • The vessel must have a VHF radio on board with sufficient power to operate for the duration of the race. 
  • A functioning watch capable of keeping elapsed time
  • The yacht must be self-righting; cockpit must be self-bailing
  • There must be handrails on the cabin top or lifelines enclosing the deck, except for the transom
  • There must be a NYS-approved head on board
  • The yacht must have two (2) permanently installed bunks of six feet minimum length .
  • Auxiliary engine and mount, gas tank and battery (auxiliary engine must be immediately available for emergency use)
  • Anchor and line of sufficient length and strength
  • Flashlight with spare batteries and bulbs
  • Tools and spare parts adequate for general maintenance
  • Chart of Lake George
  • One bailing device
  • Coast Guard Approved night visual distress signals
  • One First Aid kit with instructions
  • Readily accessible fire extinguisher(s) as required by Federal and State Regulations
  • One USCG-approved throwable device within reach of the helmsperson
Communications:

All vessels are required to carry and continuously monitor a VHF radio with sufficient power to maintain communications throughout the race. All vessels will monitor channel 16 (to be used for hailing and emergencies only) and use channel 68 for routine communications of check in and final times.

Waste Disposal

Disposal or discharge of waste into Lake George, human or otherwise, is illegal and will be considered misconduct under RRS Part 5, in addition to any fines and/or penalties as prescribed by the Lake George Park Commission, Warren County Sheriff’s Department and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Registration and Fees

The Lake George Night Navigator Race is free to all participating vessels.
