Nice job by the RC, John Dickinson, with setting a square line, a perfect count-down, and getting a long race in as our daylight hours shorten. And could you have imagined 28 boats out on a Wednesday night! John wins the prize. Do you think RC-Bob Miller can top that NEXT WEEK, our LAST RACE of the series? Did you notice the variety of boats on the starting line this week? Liam was out on his Laser and the team of Taylor/Kunz used the LGC FJ to mix it up with the Pearson 30' and all sizes of J boats. A tactical upwind leg spread out the fleet quickly. A word to the wise. If you're going to jump out to an early lead be sure you know the course. Some thought the RC meant the north mark at Canoe and headed the wrong way. Good sportsmanship by Crackerjack advised them that it was the south buoy and they recovered. Spirit hugged Canoe to the west and made it around the weather mark first but then took the "Yankee trail" back around to the west. The Brodies were quick to remind him (once on shore, of course) of them doing that once, but learned from their mistake. Spirit didn't and ended up in 10th place. 

Crackerjack, Vaporize, and Stinger leading the rest of the fleet around the mark, went east of the islands. That was way to go. A not-too-happy Fat Star, the only one that followed Spirit into the doldrums, finished back in the pack with a 19th. Throwouts for both of us. Oh well. Vaporize crossed the finish line in 59 minutes with Crackerjack 4:28 behind, but enough to win on Corrected Time by 9 seconds.
