[LG-list] J/24 District 7 Championship

Just in case you might be interested in the J/24 Upstate NY Championships held in Oswego last weekend, here are the results of a couple of your local favorites:
5th Place overall - Rodger Voss, Ben McAndrew, Tom O'Neill, and Dave Dougall
15th Place overall - Steve Jackson, Scott Romenesko, Doug Purdy, etc. (names to be remembered)
The winds were consistently strong out of the west between 12-18 on Saturday. And on Lake Ontario that means big waves, and building. We had the time of our lives blasting through the waves upwind and then surfing downwind on the face of the waves faster than I've ever been! From what I could see everyone held on and survived the 4 races on Saturday. 
We got back on shore and I found my tent laying over on its side from the strong wind so I moved my truck to block the wind and tied the tent to my truck's bumper so it wouldn't blow away. I was hoping that Ben wouldn't get the urge to drive to Walmart and end up taking my tent with him. 
Sunday we were told it would likely be less wind but still a lot of big rollers. As it turned out there were bigger waves and just as strong of winds! We started sailing out with our genoa but before we even got past the breakwall, we turned back around and changed down to our little jib. Smart choice and Dave was very appreciative. Especially after the rough night from before. 
Yes we did have a great regatta, but more fun was the super time with my crew and with Jako and their crew. We helped each other get set up and then went into town to tour the Oswego alumini. They took us to their favorite watering holes and we played pool, and very competitive ping-pong. You had to be there to be impressed with the skill level of all that played. It was a very fun night and maybe led to some tough times in those big rollers.
