RC for this week will be 2nd place finisher from last season, Crackerjack. I have the RC briefcase organized and ready for you.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. Your responses are just going to make Wednesday Nights even better. Here's a few comments.
"I assumed (incorrectly) that there would be a 6 min gun. On Wednesdays do we just have a 5 min sequence?"
Yes, a 5 min sequence. Sometimes with different RCs there is a courtesy signal when the red flag comes down, like when sailing with the LGC Saturday series. Don't set your watch by that!
The Red Flag comes down at approximately 1 minute (no sound signal) before the 5 minute Warning Signal (Green Flag) with a sound signal. Always look for the 4 minute blue/white square Prep Signal with a sound signal, as your verification of the sequence. Here's the Sailing Instructions off of the webpage for Wednesday Nights: http://lake-george.com/race/wed-si.pdf
Complaints: Short starting line; Shortened Course finish line.
Sorry for the short line. As RC be sure to allow enough room for all boats to be on the line at the same time. Rule of Thumb: 20' times # of boats. In this case the line I set should have been 20'X15=300'.
Shortened Course signal uses the S Flag, white/blue square, with 2 horn blasts, and the finish line taken to the next mark of the course. I only used one horn blast, sorry about that, and set the finish line between Canoe Is and the RC. Since the mark, "All of Canoe Is and buoys" was so huge, I either should have set out a pin-end of the line to better define where the finish was or even used the southern most danger buoy as my pin.
Lesson learned and hopefully helpful to all RCs. I thought the wind was going to blow all night, thus the 3-times around! As it was afterwards, it did fill back in for a nice sail back to the docks.
Watch out for the rocks!
After the finish one boat sailed between the two Canoe Islands and hit a boulder. Be aware of unmarked hazards especially around the southern tip of Canoe and around Cotton Point, that we use as rounding marks.
See you Wednesday!
