4th Annual Y-Knot Cup Regatta

Saturday & Sunday, October 9-10, 2004

Saturday was warm with a big consistent breeze out of the south. Three races for the morning division, three races for the afternoon in winds that gusted over 25. None of the racers in the double-handed fleet put up the spinnaker in the heavy wind and large waves, and the weather took its toll on several racers. In some cases, waves washed into the cockpit faster than crew on the bilge pump could get the water out. Sunday morning the wind was light as we waited for the breeze to rotate around to the north. The morning division sailed one race in light and variable conditions, which gave Rene D'Allaire the opportunity to launch Aladin's spinnaker. After lunch the wind increased and settled in from the north at around 12-14, and we ran two races for the afternoon division. The double-handed crews ran up their spinnakers in the pre-start, but elected not to use them during the races. Double-handed and single-handed racers were scored as one-design against each other; the overall winner of the Y-Knot Cup was determined by using PHRF time-on-time scoring.
