30th Anniversary of the Colors in 2008

There's still snow in the forecast, but it's never too early to start planning for the Changing of the Colors. This year is the 30th Anniversary of Fleet 24's J/24 regatta, so we should see at least as many boats as last year's near-record fleet of 64. Check out the Fleet 24 page for all the details.

Single-Handed, Women's Race on Sunday

The next Corinthian race is actually two special races on Sunday, August 12: the LGCYC Single-Handed Race and the LGCYC Women�s Race. Charlie Pound on Ivory Blue is Race Committee. Depending on the number of boats present at the start for each race, the Race Committee will decide whether or not both races start at the same time. Participants in both races should plan on a 1 pm start in front of Yankee Marina. All sailors in the Single-Handed Race are required to wear a PFD and trail a line behind the boat for the duration of the race for safety. (And all sailors in the Women's Race are required to be women.)

A beautiful day with a nice breeze. A triangle course using Flora, Crown and Dome islands as marks, with just about everyone spending some time trapped in the doldrums between Crown and Green islands. This Sunday is the Corinthian Around the Islands Regatta, a white-sails-only event (no spinnakers) that starts up around Dome Island and will use islands as marks, depending on wind direction. Open to all sailors, not just LGCYC members.

Largest Turnout of the Summer on Wed Night

Certainly the beautiful weather played a part as 26 boats turned out for a perfect evening's racing. Well, perfect until the breeze slowly dropped on the downwind leg... although enough to keep the spinnakers full for these great shots by Ron Byrne. We also heard Ed Ostberg's shutter firing at the weather mark, hope to have a link to share for those photos soon.

Corinthian Results for Race Day One

Results have been posted for the Corinthian's first race day, a leisurely Sunday sail south around Diamond Island, back north through the channel to take Long Island to port, and back to the finish in front of Yankee. Next race is scheduled for Sunday, July 8, and it will be a joint event with Y-Knot. The course will be set up just off Camp Chingachgook, Happy Days is scheduled to be committee boat.

Wild Thing Wins Brodie Cup in Ti Race

The 34th Lake George / Ticonderoga Race was marked by extremely light wind for the first four hours at the southern end of the course, better breeze up north, and a return to light and variable down south on the way home. Spencer Raggio on Wild Thing won in the spinnaker fleet, with crew Dennis Hudson and Tom Selfridge. Mossy Log was first in the non-spinnaker fleet, and Gypsy won in the multihull fleet. 34th Annual Ticonderoga Race Saturday

Sponsored by the Lake George Corinthian Yacht Club, the Ti Race is set for Saturday, June 16. The Race is open to all eligible sailboats. Membership in the LGCYC is not required. The race starts at 9:30 am just off Yankee Boating Center in Diamond Point. Chowder Cup Results and Photos

Extremely light wind and a skewed course made for some difficult racing, and all three Colgates dropped out before finishing. But we enjoyed a beautiful day on the water, with ten PHRF boats and six Martin 16s. We also enjoyed the Sagamore's hospitality, from the Chowderfest dinner on Saturday night to the awards luncheon on Sunday. Sagamore Chowderfest and Regatta this Weekend

Join us for the Chowderfest and Fourth Annual Y-Knot Benefit Regatta, hosted by the Sailing School at The Sagamore. This regatta is open to all sailboats on Lake George. Spectators can watch the competition from aboard the Morgan and then join the competitors for the awards ceremony and lunch on Shelving Rock Terrace.

The Z flags and Black flags abound, not completely unexpected when you get 70 J/24s together. New York's Mike Ingham on Brain Cramp is doing well, currently in fourth place after three days of racing in the warm weather and great breeze on Mexico's Banderas Bay.

After a few conversations between our members and members of Y-Knot Sailing, we have decided to combine both our Fall Banquets into one great event, to be held at Camp Chingachgook. This combined dinner offers new opportunities to meet other lake sailors, tell a few tall tales, enjoy a wonderful meal and most importantly make the presentation of the funds raised during the Ti Race in person. To make this even easier, by sheer coincidence the dates of the two banquets happen to be the same, so schedule changes are minimized. So please look over the new details below, and join us for a spectacular joining of sailing forces. I look forward to seeing you all before the snow flies.”

Corinthian/Y-Knot Fall Banquet, cocktail hour starts at 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Camp Chingachgook on Pilot Knob. Dinner is your choice of beef or salmon, and includes beer and wine. "The bowline makes a reasonably secure loop in the end of a piece of rope. It has many uses, e.g., to fasten a mooring line to a ring or a post. Under load, it does not slip or bind. With no load it can be untied easily. Its principle shortcoming is that it cannot be tied, or untied, when there is a load on the standing end. It should therefore be avoided when, for example, a mooring line may have to be released under load. Two bowlines can be linked together to join two ropes."

Corinthian Awards Banquet Set for Nov. 11

From Social Committee Chair Debbie Meier: �This year�s banquet will be held at the Algonquin Restaurant in Bolton Landing. The cost for dinner will be $30. Since we did not have any "socials" after the races this year, the Club will be picking up the cost of the appetizers, tax and tip. The schedule for Saturday, November 11 is: 6:00 pm Cash Bar and Appetizers, 7:00 pm Dinner. Choice of one of the following: Grilled New York Strip topped with Portobello Mushrooms, Grilled Fillet of Salmon with B�arnaise Sauce, or Stuffed Breast of Chicken Encroute with Asparagus and Roasted Red Peppers. 9:00 pm Awards and presentation of check to Y-Knot. Witch Way Top Local Boat in Colors

Alfie Merchant and the crew of Witch Way posted a second-place finish to take the best local boat trophy; Tim McKegney on Hot Chocolate won the event.
